The Number 26 Bus to Paraguay – A Musical Talk with Q&A

30 August 2016 : 7:00 pm

The Number 26 Bus to Paraguay

Guitarist and composer Richard Durrant will be bringing a south American flavour to Carlisle.

The boy from Brighton tells the captivating tale of how a number 26 Brighton bus took him to Paraguay (via the Albert Hall and the Royal College of Music) and plays some of the vivid and colourful music he has discovered there, in the heart of Latin America. His regular visits to this fascinating and magical part of the world have earned him accolades and awards whilst his concerts and recent trilogy of Paraguayan albums have uncovered the richness of guitar music being written in the region today. Guitar in hand, Richard shows the beauty of Paraguayan music, explores the mysteries of La Ruta Mangoreana and introduces us to a true Latin American icon. An unusual and entertaining event in the company of a maverick musician who is both captivating story-teller and world class guitar virtuoso. The erstwhile Guitar Whisperer, Richard Durrant, is particularly smitten by music composed for the guitar in paradisal Paraguay.  He is celebrated as one of the world’s great exponents of guitar music by Augustin Barrios Mangoré. For this special one off event Richard will also talk about the recording of his Paraguayan trilogy and answer questions. Free entrance, but with limited availability.
