The second album in Richard’s Paraguayan trilogy Hijo de Hombre. Music by Agustin Barros Mangore, Quirino Baez Allende, Felipe Sosa, Kike Pedersen & Richard Durrant. The first of the trilogy released lin 2011 – The Number 26 Bus to Paraguay, was an all Barrios album.Hijo de Hombre is mainly solo classical guitar but also contains Durrant’s overdubs on guitars, double bass and cajon.
This British classical guitarist, no stranger to these pages, is a phenomenal musician and a great performer – and his willingness to experiment with effects, among other innovations, adds vital crossover appeal to his music.Hijo de Hombre is named after Paraguayan author, Roa Bastos’ novel of the same name, and is inspired by the work of composer/guitarist Agustin Barrios Mangoré, also of Paraguay, who in 1913 made one of the world’s first commercial guitar recordings. Alongside heartfelt solo pieces, Durrant reinterprets harp melodies and adds double bass and cajon – while on Apreton de Manos he imagines himself buying the long-departed Mangoré a beer to say thanks for his music.
