Some Like it Hot
…but this ancient Sussex Yew tree gave some emergency shade to English Black Oak more than three times its age!
Richard set off for the 35 mile ride to Wilmington on the hottest of midsummer days.
On arrival, with the temperature over 30C the 1,600 year old Wilmington yew tree gave welcome shelter to bicycle, rider and his 5,000 year old bog oak guitar.
Fortunately, the concert took place in the coolness of Wilmington Church.

‘During these gigs I’ve enjoyed paying tribute to the two English folk guitarists John Renbourn and Martin Carthy. Their style of playing fits so well with my own pieces – full of the joys of the English Folk Baroque.’
Says Richard
Nails and plectrums are cherished and looked after every step of the way, especially when cycling. Luckily, Richard’s daughter Rooney runs Pink Moon Studio and Rooney herself applies her artistic skills to each set of her Dad’s touring nails.

‘She’s not just a great bass player – her nail coatings are works of art – and tough as old boots…’
